Santa Cruz, CA: Chill time

I just got finished with a workshop down here in the Bay area and spent a day hanging with one of my childhood friends down in Santa Cruz, CA.  I really enjoy having a full relaxing day, it has been way too long.  Remember to take some time for your personal spiritual growth so you can give to others.

Fishing on the Gallatin River in the Fall

We have had an amazing Autumn here in Big Sky, Montana.  The Gallatin River has world class fishing and going down to the river really brings it back to the flow of life for me.  No resistance and letting go, there is so much to learn from the river.

Big Sky Resort Powder Opening on Thanksgiving Day of 2011

Who is getting excited to start shredding some Powder at Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin?  I am.  The mountains around here are world class and without any lift lines and plenty of powder that stays fresh for days!  Make sure to make it out here to Big Sky this winter to check out the Biggest Skiing in America.

Attached is a snowboarder Pat Donovan shredding Liberty Bowl down to Dakota Chair.  Lone Peak Tram tops you off at 11,166 feet and the run is over 3k, now the only place I know you can get that is in a helicopter.  You can check out http://www.bigskyresort.com or http://www.moonlightbasin.com for more info.

11.10.18: Commercial Photography | Rainbow Ranch Lodge in Big Sky, MT

I just finished an amazing photo shoot at the Rainbow Ranch in Big Sky, Montana.  Wow this place is on the up and up, I got married here 6.5 years ago and it is by far the BEST place to dine and stay in Big Sky, actually better than almost any place I have been and it is right in my backyard.

I took my wife here for a getaway for 1 night from our 2.5 year old twins.  We had the most amazing time!

Chef Mattew Fritz created the most delicious 8 course vegetarian spread as a surprise to my wonderful vegetarian wife.   My wife and I were both blown away with his attention to detail, passion and his artistry.   Thank you for introducing those mixes to my palate Fritzy.  We stayed in the Master Suite at the Rainbow Ranch which is called the Ermine room that overlooks the pond and has (2) indoor fireplaces and (1) outdoor fireplace.  There is also a very large tub for relaxing.  The best part is the legendary Gallatin River is right out your door and the most amazing food in the nation is sitting right on top of you.

Thank you Rainbow Ranch, make sure to check out this event for the locals this Wednesday at 5pm.

11.10.16: Negative Space in Landscape Photography

As a photographer, I hear many people create rules for imagery.  It is great to have a foundation for all of the rules of photography.  Once you have the tools, remember that you can break any rules because there is no limitation of what you can find.   With this landscape image of Lone Peak in Big Sky, Montana I wanted to express the feeling of the sky and how much energy it can have around this area.  The peak is only about a 10th of the entire image, this is how I visualized it and what I wanted to express to the viewers.  Having an idea of what you are trying to say before you take the photograph is a key element of creating a great photograph!  Keep it in the moment.

Photographing the Kiss

There are some key shots at a wedding and photographing the kiss is a very important moment.  For me, it not the actual kiss that is the most important.  I like when the couple really look into each others eyes and fall into the NOW, the MOMENT.

To get the shot:

1.  Get in position and be ready

2.  Have 2 cameras with different lenses for a unique look.  With this wedding I went with a 300mm and a 14mm.  But I never really have a formula, it is all feeling.

3.  Look for the moments in between, so much is happening there.

4.  Do not be afraid to take the shot FEEL what is happening all around you, shoot from the heart!

5.  Most of all HAVE FUN!
